Megabuyte award nomination - an acknowledgement of our impressive growth

The announcement that we had been shortlisted for this award came at a time of significant developments at Datum. We have come a long way since our flagship colocation data centre (FRN1) was designed and built in 2013, and our development is gaining momentum. FRN1 was designed to be easily scalable up to 1,200 footprints over four halls. Hall 1 was completed in 2013 and Hall 2 in 2015 (which doubled our capacity). The growth continued in 2020 with the addition of Hall 3, built out for an anchor tenant. Hall 4 will be completed in 2022.

Then, in September 2021, Datum was acquired by UBS Asset Management, a move that has given further impetus to our expansion plans, so this year will see the construction of an entirely new facility (FRN2), link-detached to FRN1 and providing a further 1,200 footprints. All our data halls will provide an average power density of 3.5kW/footprint, capability to deliver high density compute of up to 30kW/footprint, and Tier 3+ resilience. And, in light of our commitment to environmental efficiency, we use energy efficient adiabatic cooling, and energy from renewable sources with full carbon offsetting throughout our facilities.

Datum’s impressive and steady growth trajectory has attracted the attention of Megabuyte’s analysts before now – Datum was shortlisted for the ‘Best Performing Company (Data Centre & Hosting Services’ award in the 2019. Then, in 2021, having been included in the SME 100 Growth Index (a listing of fast-rising SMEs in the Thames Valley region published by The Business Magazine), Datum was shortlisted as a finalist for the ‘SME 100 Growth Award (under £10m)’ award.
