It’s been an incredible few years since Datum was established in 2012 as part of a £40 million IT services group to provide a robust colocation service for business-critical IT.
In that time, although the relatively new colocation sector has been growing, competition has been fierce and, in the uncertain times the UK has faced over recent years, new entrants have come (and in many cases disappeared again) or existing businesses have merged (takeovers have been an ongoing feature of the marketplace). For Datum, however, it has been a success story - in fact, things have never been better.
Impressive growth and our first EBITDA profit
Datum is showing above-market revenue growth and our calendar year 2018 accounts show Datum’s first EBITDA profit. This reflects the operating profitability of Datum and shows a positive financial outcome from our operating decisions – our firm belief in our service offering has been rewarded and reflected in our ongoing success.
Financials aside, we have a stream of new clients coming on board, and several contract renewals and extensions, which says a lot about the way our existing clients feel about the service we offer.
Dominic Phillips, Managing Director at Datum Datacentres, reflects on Datum’s impressive growth and plans for the future:
We know we’re up against stiff competition but our focus on a service-based approach has allowed us to exceed even our own high expectations. The future looks very bright for Datum and we’re excited about what’s to come – not least a new state of the art facility alongside our flagship data centre in Farnborough, designed to Tier3+ resilience, link-detached to the existing hall, and comprising two new 1MW data halls.

A new face at Datum
A growing business needs a growing team and we’re pleased to welcome Will Sargent as a new Account Director.
Will has spent his career to date working as a sales consultant within cloud and colocation solutions and has worked in some top companies including Net Benefit and Iomart, before being head hunted by Timico, a UK managed-services provider.
But it was whilst working for the Fortune Global 500 giant, NTT, a Japanese-owned telecommunications business, that Will concluded that his passion lay with colocation, so he jumped at the opportunity to get on board with Datum.
We are very pleased to have Will on board and are looking forward to enjoying a bright future with him at Datum.
I am thrilled to be joining the Datum team at this exciting time in the company's development, and I'm looking forward to playing a key role in helping Datum achieve its short-term and long-term objectives. Customers choose Datum due to our client-focused approach alongside our flexible contracts and personable service. All this means that we are perfectly placed to capitalise on the ever-growing data centre market - I can’t wait to start contributing to this growth!
