Farnborough, UK 20 March 2023: Datum Datacentres has won the prestigious Megabuyte ‘Best Performing Company – IT Managed Services’ Emerging Stars award at this year’s Megabuyte100 awards. This was Datum’s third nomination for a Megabuyte award, and the company’s first win.
The Megabuyte Emerging Stars awards are part of the Megabuyte100 award series, which collectively celebrates the 100 best performing technology companies in the UK. The Emerging Stars awards recognise the 25 best-performing, scale-up technology companies within the Megabuyte100 winning company universe.
Companies’ performance is determined by their Megabuyte Scorecard rating – a proprietary, and wholly independent benchmarking methodology that assesses companies’ performance against five key financial KPIs.
The rigour of the Megabuyte Scorecard methodology, combined with a specific focus on technology companies, have made Megabuyte’s award series the most influential and authoritative awards in the UK technology sector.
Datum’s win this time around sees its ranking increase to fourth out of 25 in Megabuyte’s list of the UK’s 25 best-performing scale-up technology companies. Previous nominations in 2020 (‘Best Performing Company - Data Centre & Hosting Services’) and 2022 (‘Best Performing Company - IT Managed Services’) saw final rankings of seventeenth and eighth respectively.
Dominic Phillips, CEO of Datum, said:
"It is a real honour to feature in the top five in such an impressive line-up, and to finally secure a win in these prestigious awards. Developments have been happening apace at Datum since 2021, and this award is testament to our growth and prominence within the data centre sector."
Datum was acquired by UBS Asset Management in 2021, giving the company the financial backing to embark on its regional expansion strategy. This led to Datum’s acquisition of Manchester-based colocation facility Teledata in September 2022, creating the Datum Group with colocation facilities in the two most economically active regions of the UK.
About Datum Datacentres
The Datum Group has been delivering service-enhanced colocation from its highly engineered, London-edge data centre (a connection-rich, carrier and cloud neutral facility with latency to the City of London of less than one millisecond) within Cody Technology Park in Farnborough since 2012. It acquired Teledata (a colocation data centre in Manchester) in 2022; its first regional bolt-on acquisition giving the Group colocation facilities in the two most economically active regions of the UK. Datum has a track record of supporting clients as they embark on revitalising their IT to meet market and competitive demands, delivering a proven platform for their digital transformation projects. Datum is trusted by an impressive and growing client list of organisations from the private and public sectors, serving vertical markets from finance and insurance through IT security services, defence, and engineering, and including companies from the FTSE 250 and Fortune 500.
Founded in 2005, Teledata is an ISO27001 Tier 3 standard data centre facility in Manchester providing premium colocation, cloud hosting and data centre services to businesses across the UK. It is the only data centre globally to offer an NSI Gold Approved BS5979 Security and Operations Control Centre (SOC) on-site. In 2019 Teledata made a six-figure investment into its cloud platform - CloudActiv - as well as a £1.2 Million investment into energy efficiencies. Teledata recently became the first colocation facility in the UK to join the smart grid with battery storage, as part of a project to improve environmental efficiencies with low loss transformer and voltage optimisation, boosting the resilience of the facility by improving the shelf life of equipment, while reducing unnecessary energy waste and optimising the incoming power supply. In 2020 Teledata was listed in the GP Bullhound Northern Tech Awards Top 100 Fastest Growing technology companies. In December 2020, Teledata was awarded Data Centre Energy Efficiency Project of the Year Award at the prestigious DCS (Data Centre Solutions) awards, for the work the firm has undertaken to improve its efficiencies and reduce its carbon output.
In 2022 Teledata was acquired by Datum Datacentres representing the first bolt-on regional acquisition for the firm as part of its regional expansion strategy.
