Strengthening the Datum team – our new starters

Team growth to support our business development

As our operations expand with the successful launch of our MCR2 (Manchester) data centre in June 2025 and construction underway for FRN2 on our Farnborough campus, we were pleased to welcome five individuals to our team across our two sites during the latter half of 2025.

Let’s meet our new starters

Steve Hardy – Data Centre Engineer (MCR)

Based at our Manchester site, Steve oversees daily client requirements, including access management, deliveries, connection needs, and remote hands work. With a background in installing network and camera equipment for Highways England’s Smart Motorways (for the avoidance of doubt he emphasises here that he did NOT install speed cameras!), Steve brings a wealth of technical expertise and a meticulous approach to his work. He works closely with Lee Veitch and is enjoying learning from him.

After years of working away from home and in challenging outdoor conditions, Steve was ready for a change. Joining Datum offered him the perfect opportunity to settle locally while continuing to apply his technical skills in a new environment.

April Frankson - Client Service Manager (FRN)

April has joined our client services team, where she will be managing client relationships, overseeing business projects, and coordinating pre-planned maintenance schedules. With a background in customer-focused roles, including five years as a partnership manager in the property sector, April has significant experience in account management across industries such as IT sales and property.

April’s passion for building strong client relationships and her drive for a new challenge in a dynamic sector make her a perfect fit for Datum.

Fun fact: she once took a year out to work with dogs before returning to office life!

Perry Roberts – Data Centre Operations Technician (FRN)

Perry has plenty of relevant experience, having previously worked at other data centres in similar roles. According to Perry, he was particularly impressed by the welcoming and friendly nature of the Datum team during his interview process, and this ultimately sealed the deal.

His responsibilities include installing, configuring, and maintaining servers and networking equipment, monitoring systems for optimal performance, responding promptly to any faults or outages, and supporting data centre expansion projects or equipment migrations. He works closely with Nathan Brown (Senior Data Centre Engineer at FRN) and James Thomas (one of our new recruits – see below).

James Thomas – Entry Level Data Centre Engineer (FRN)

James has joined our operations team, where he will handle day-to-day client tickets and project work, collaborating closely with his fellow new starter, Perry Roberts. With a decade of technical experience in telecoms and secure engineering, James brings a strong foundation of transferable skills to his new role.

Following a career break to reassess his goals, James was drawn to Datum by our strong reputation and values, which resonated with his own. James reports that Ian Mace’s (Datum’s Head of Data Centre Operations’) obvious sincerity about the role and the business shone through during his interview, and this solidified his decision that Datum was the right fit.

Owen Lambell - Finance and Office Assistant (FRN)

Owen has joined us to support our Financial Controller, Joanna Terka, with accounts, while also ensuring the office runs smoothly and assisting the service management and operations teams. Transitioning from a supervisory role in the leisure industry, Owen embarked on a career change by enrolling in an accounting course and gaining hands-on experience in finance.

Owen was drawn to Datum by the supportive and welcoming environment he experienced during his interview process with Joanna and Mark Richards (Chief Financial Officer). His willingness to take on new challenges make him a fantastic addition to the team.

A growing team…

As we continue on our growth journey, we are delighted to welcome our new team members – Steve, April, James, Perry, and Owen – who will play a vital role in supporting our clients and driving our business forward. With their support, we are confident that our expanding team will be even better equipped to meet (and exceed) client expectations while addressing the needs of our growing organisation.

If the new year has inspired you to make a fresh start and consider moving your business-critical IT and workloads off-premise, don’t hesitate to get in touch to discuss your requirements.
