Looking back on 2025, it’s been a landmark year for Datum, dominated of course by the launch of MCR2. And there’s so much more to come in 2026…
2025 – highlights of a great year for Datum
Where to start?
Launching MCR2
A major highlight of our year was the official launch of our MCR2 facility in Manchester in June – the culmination of years of work behind the scenes to design and build a purpose-built data centre that meets the highest enterprise standards.
Spanning 24,000ft² of technical space, MCR2 was designed from the ground up with resilience at its core. It features 2N UPS redundancy and is backed by our 100% 24/7 uptime guarantee, offering clients the peace of mind that their critical infrastructure is always operational. Beyond its technical specifications, MCR2 embodies our focus on sustainability, tailored client offerings, and a strategic location that strengthens our national presence and supports our clients’ evolving digital transformation needs.
Measuring our sustainability with GRESB
Our commitment to sustainable business operations is a fundamental part of who we are. We are proud of the positive improvement in our GRESB score this year, which increased from 90 in 2024 to an outstanding 93 in 2025. This score places us well above the benchmark average of 89, demonstrates our dedication to environmental stewardship, and reflects our approach to sustainability that permeates every aspect of our organisation. We also secured first place in our peer group for data centres and first place within the ‘data infrastructure: data storage’ category across Europe.
Importantly, these results are testament to our team’s hard work in optimising energy efficiency, managing resources responsibly, and integrating ESG principles into our core strategy, whilst motivating us to continue striving to improve.
Breaking ground on FRN2
In November 2025, the diggers moved in to begin breaking ground on our new FRN2 facility, located adjacent to our flagship FRN1 data centre in Farnborough. This project marks the next phase of our strategic expansion and is a direct response to the growing needs of our clients.
FRN2 is designed to be a state-of-the-art 4MW data centre. Its development will further enhance our ability to support our clients’ operations by providing even greater resilience and capacity to accommodate demand. We are excited to watch this facility take shape and to deliver another world-class environment for our clients’ business-critical IT assets.
A growing team for a growing company
As Datum continues to grow, so does our need for talented and dedicated professionals who share our vision. The latter part of 2025 saw the successful recruitment of five new team members across both our Manchester and Farnborough sites (more on that in the new year).
These new hires span various crucial roles, from client service management to data centre engineers. Each individual brings unique skills and experience that will strengthen our capabilities and enhance the service we provide to our clients. We extend a warm welcome to our new colleagues and look forward to their contributions as we continue on our growth trajectory.
Looking ahead
This year’s achievements have laid a strong foundation for the future, and we are excited to continue building on this success as we look towards 2026. With the launch of our new Manchester data centre in June and additional capacity now online, and a new data centre in the pipeline, this is the ideal time to talk to us about migrating your business-critical IT and workloads off premise. Get in touch to discuss your requirements and see how we can support your goals.
