The Big Switch: How IT Views Moving To New Colocation Data Centre Vendors

How IT Views Moving To New Colocation Data Centre Vendors

Moving data centre isn’t a light decision, it takes a lot of effort and can be an uncertain process. However for many IT teams, it’s a necessary choice to make, as the demands on their existing infrastructure becomes too much. We conducted a survey alongside IDG where UK respondents from storage, data centre and IT roles share their colocation experience.

The infographic below shows the findings of the report which includes the reasons for outsourcing, the challenges businesses face with colocation and what you can expect from a colocation provider. Key highlights of why organisations choose colocation include:

  • Improved data centre capability: colocation allows you to connect to cloud platforms, the internet, and other data centres. You can also put the infrastructure in place to easily expand your business.
  • Bolster IT ops resilience: naturally things can go wrong when you’re responsible for a vast IT infrastructure, but outsourcing can provide you with the support you need to pre-empt and prevent downtime.
  • Increase info sec: colocation will vastly improve your organisation’s security, and the security of your sensitive data too.

It seems that although the majority of the respondents were satisfied with the service they received from their vendor, they would appreciate a higher service level in future. Most of those surveyed suggested their reason for moving to a colocated facility was to improve the capability of the existing data centre. It is clear then that people move to colocated data centres because they need that extra level of support that in-house data centres can’t always provide. See the infographic below and download the full, extended report here.
